Meet Dr. Dustin Mayrand
Our Lexington, KY Dentist Offers Dental Implants & Other Services
Initially, I never really considered dentistry that much going through high school or even undergraduate until toward the end of undergrad. I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. Had a friend that was considering dentistry, so I started looking more into it, and I feel like dentistry found me more than me seeking it out. Because I started doing dental research and looked in and loved the science mixed with art aspect of dentistry and medicine and surgery, all things that I was interested in together, and the diversity of what dentistry can offer and what you can offer to patients.
I did almost all of my education at the University of Kentucky here in Lexington. I did an undergraduate in biology and chemistry. Then after that, I went to dental school at UK and then did a one-year hospital-based residency at UK.
Throughout residency, I got continuing education and certified in IV sedation, so that was my start, but even prior to residency, I had taken some implant continuing education because I'm really passionate about implants and something I'm very interested in, so I did that toward the end of dental school, actually setting myself up to practice placing implants in residency. Since then, I've done a lot of even more implant continuing education, even recently a few of the doctors have went. So a lot of my continuing education has been about IV sedation, implants, and surgery.
Patients come in with an issue, and we can fix it that day or that appointment or in the very near future for them. So there's not that many health care professions that I feel like when they come in with the issue that we can almost immediately resolve it a large majority of the time, and whether that's the patient's in pain or has an aesthetic issue or whatever the case may be, a lot of times we can have a pretty instant fix, and so I find that really gratifying within our profession.
Dr. Dustin Mayrand grew up in Somerset, KY and graduated from Southwestern High School. He attended the University of Kentucky for both his undergraduate education, where he graduated with honors obtaining his bachelor’s degree in biology, and for dental school, where he graduated with high distinction. During dental school, he was honored to receive the Academy of General Dentistry Award and the Restorative Clinical Achievement Award, and to be inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
Following dental school, Dr. Dustin completed a one-year hospital-based general practice residency as part of UK Healthcare. During his residency he received advanced training in many different areas of dentistry, including IV sedation, dental implants, and surgical procedures. Dr. Dustin has taken particular interest in various surgical procedures and is passionate about dental implants. He enjoys being able to offer IV sedation to patients with high dental anxiety so they can get the dental care they need. He is very driven to continue furthering his education, as it allows him to provide his patients with the best care possible.
In his free time, Dr. Dustin likes to spend time with his wife, Hannah, his family, and his friends. He loves to play golf and enjoys boating on Lake Cumberland. He and Hannah have a goldendoodle and are expecting a son.
