I originally come from a blue-collar family in eastern Kentucky. My mom was a teacher, my whole family's teachers. My dad worked on the railroad his whole life. He wanted better for me from a lifestyle standpoint, as far as controlled climate and things like that where you didn't have to work in harsh environments. And he wanted me to use my brain instead of my body.
And one time he went to our hometown dentist, which we were close family friends with, and they had discussed his job and his hours and things he does, and helping people and how much he loves doing his job. And my dad came home, and I was probably 13 years old, and he said, "Turner, I've decided that you're going to be a dentist."
Basically from then on out, it's been my path. I was always interested in the medical field in general. I really like being hands-on. Dentistry, I always say, is a mix between white-collar and blue-collar because you get the academic side, but you also get the hands-on side.
And most importantly is patients for me and personal relationships. I'm a very personal type of person, and getting to interact with patients and talk about things outside of dentistry while meeting their dental needs and teeth complaints that they might have – that’s the most important thing for me, is the relationships between the doctor and the patient and building that rapport.
I'm just really excited to be back in Lexington. This has been my dream job, really since I left dental school. My wife Danielle and I, we've been talking to Beaumont Family Dentistry since dental school, and we've just been waiting for the right opportunity. And this is the type of patient base that I'd like to see.
I'm just really excited to see all different types of patients and treat everyone as they need to be treated.
