Dear Patients of Beaumont Family Dentistry,
As your neighbors and your health care providers, your health and safety are our primary concern. This is a difficult time for all of us as we travel the COVID-19 road together and maintain the social distancing needed to flatten and surpass the curve to reach our new “normal”. We are dedicated to you and your oral health and well being.
Now more than ever, prevention of inflammation, disease and infection is essential as the coronavirus is more damaging to those with compromised immune systems. The less inflammation in your body the better you are able to fight off infections, including mouth and gum disease. This is why brushing, flossing and home care as well as hand washing several times a day are everyday acts yet so very important to keep you healthy.
Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent way to reduce inflammation in the gums and mouth. Due to the fact that it contains oxygen and hydrogen molecules, it is an oxidizing agent that kills living cells, including bacteria and viruses, including the coronavirus. It has been demonstrated in a clinical study that there were fewer signs of gum disease in people that rinsed with peroxide. The patients that we see in our offices are all rinsing with a diluted concentration of hydrogen peroxide before they are seated. This helps reduce the virus and other bacteria to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
To rinse with hydrogen peroxide, use a 3 percent concentration found in most grocery and drug stores and mix 2 parts water with one part hydrogen peroxide. For example, mix 2 tablespoons of water with 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide, gargle and swish all around the mouth for 30 seconds. Then spit the solution out. Foaming is normal and limit use to 3 or 4 times a week.
We will get through this together and our lives will return to a more normal in due time. This experience has allowed our teams at Beaumont Family Dentistry to reflect what is really important and high on the list are our patient relationships. We value each of you and thank you for your trust as we navigate these uncharted waters. Please be cautious, follow the CDC recommendations, and stay safe. We look forward to us sharing a happy future together.
Sincerely,
The teams at
