Sometimes it is hard to see from the outside that dentistry is a creative and dynamic field. But it is! And this is great news for patients who are old enough to remember how things were done in earlier eras. For one thing, many experiences that were painful in the past (maybe you are one of the many folks out there who have had an unfortunate run-in with a dental drill at one time or another) are not likely to happen to you in the future, at least not in our Lexington, KY dentist’s office.
Around here, we do our best to make it easy for you to get the care you deserve and we are committed to changing the way patients are treated (for the better) as technology allows. One way we can provide a better dental experience in the Bluegrass is with our state-of-the-art laser treatment options.
Keep reading to hear all about this exciting breakthrough and what it can mean for you. Then be sure to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Takacs at Beaumont Family Dentistry.
What Can The Dentist Do With Lasers?
The cool thing about laser dentistry is that it can be applied to many forms of treatment, and it is not only more pleasant to experience, it actually allows for a more speedy recovery that old-school methods. Here are a few of the areas in which we use lasers…
Lightsaber Battles
This isn’t something we really engage in, we just wanted to see if you were paying attention. That and we wanted to give a nod to our Gen X patients who tell us that, for them, laser dentistry evokes images of Star Wars. All joking aside, laser dentistry really can be life-changing.
Lip/Tongue Tie
Laser treatment makes treating an infant’s tongue tie quick and virtually painless! Here’s how: the laser that Dr. Takacs utilizes gently loosens the child’s frenum to allow the child to nurse more effectively and get on the road to health and happiness.
Crown Lengthening
Sometimes we encounter a tooth that needs work but there is just not enough of the crown is exposed to support a filling or dental crown. Laser crown lengthening allows us to painlessly remove gum and bone tissue to expose more surface of your tooth.
Gum Recontouring
If you had a so-called “gummy” smile back in the day you would have been subjected to a painful gum surgery that required your gums to be sutured and took a while to fully heal. Nowadays we just perform a procedure known as laser gum recontouring. The laser actually cauterizes as it removes tissue, making the procedure comfortable and safe.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Did you know that full-blown gum disease (aka periodontal disease) is the #1 cause of tooth loss in adults? True story! What’s more, gum disease, generally speaking, will adversely impact the oral health of about half of all Americans at one time or another.
Some of the tougher cases will require a deep gum cleaning to remove the infection. That said, laser gum disease treatment makes that process much, much easier. Our lasers can remove bacteria with excellent precision so that your deep cleaning process is non-invasive and pain-free at Beaumont Family Dentistry.
