As wonderful as the holidays are, they can also be the most busy time of the year. In addition to doing daily work and caring for our families, we now have to make time to get together with family, friends, and co-workers.
Somewhere in there we need to buy — and wrap — the presents for each of them, too.
It’s hard to find any time for ourselves amid the hustle and bustle. That may be true in December, but is that the only time you use that excuse? Is being too busy your excuse for why you haven’t been to the dentist in a while?
We would like you to reconsider. If you and your family can’t make time to visit the dentist twice a year, then there’s a good chance you won’t have a choice down the road.
We look forward to seeing all our patients in and around Lexington at each of our Beaumont Family Dentistry locations. And when we see you regularly, we can help you keep your mouth as healthy as it can be.
How will you benefit from going to the dentist?
You may be thinking that you do a good job of caring for your teeth. You brush every day, and you floss. Maybe not every day, but most days.
You don’t see any problems with your teeth, and your teeth don’t hurt. Why should you try to fit a visit to the dentist into your schedule?
First, we assume you would like to continue using your teeth for the rest of your life. Brushing and flossing are certainly important. If you see us, we will encourage you to keep doing those things (brushing twice a day for two minutes each time and flossing every single day).
But you still need a professional cleaning from time to time.
Brushing and flossing are effective at removing a lot of bacteria and plaque from your teeth and gums. But no matter how careful you think you’ve been, that bacteria finds places to make plaque.
A professional cleaning by one of our hygienists will remove the plaque and tartar buildup in those harder to reach spots. That is an essential step in preventing tooth decay and gum disease.
Speaking of decay and gum disease, both of those things can develop slowly before you know you have a problem. By the time you are feeling pain in your jaw or your gums are pulling back from your teeth due to periodontitis, you won’t really have a choice about coming to see one of our dentists.
We examine your mouth when you come for your routine care. During the exam, we are checking the health of your teeth and gums. We can spot the early signs of tooth decay and gum disease, so you can take action to prevent even bigger problems.
Other reasons to make dental appointments
As part of our general practice, our dentists will be checking for a number of things, like oral cancer. We know that can be scary to think about, but would you know the signs of oral cancer if you saw them?
We do. We would prefer to never see them, but if we do, then we want to see them as early as possible. As with any type of cancer, early detection is a way to improve the success of your treatment.
Not everything we do is as serious as looking for cancer. If we see your family regularly, we can help you and your children prepare for any orthodontic treatments they may need.
As your children grow and their adult teeth come in, we will keep track of their oral health. If we see their teeth have some alignment issues, we may be able to take some preliminary steps before their orthodontic treatment.
This can make the orthodontic care more effective. It also gives you and your child more time to prepare before that treatment begins.
Dentists who care about your family
This may not have been part of our dental school education, but our dentists and our staff want you and your family to be comfortable when you visit us.
In addition to our general dental services, we provide comfort options such as hand and arm massages, sedation dentistry, and refreshments while you wait.
Preventive care is essential to keeping your mouth healthy. We want you to keep all your teeth for as long as possible. Making time to see us twice a year for cleanings and examinations is an important step in maintaining your oral health.
We know we can’t make you schedule an appointment at one of our Lexington area Beaumont Family Dentistry offices. However, we would much rather call us or fill out our online form today than to have you call us down the road with dental emergency (even though we can help with that, too).
