So I'm Steve I'm a patient here at the want Family Dentistry. I'm doing this testimonial can't kind of to help promote the fact that people with sleep apnea particularly obstructive sleep apnea have alternatives to the CPAP machine that most people are more familiar with. I myself do not tolerate the CPAP machine I have moderate to severe sleep apnea actually but with the machine that blows pressure into your lungs the positive pressure machine. I was very intolerant of it and I had it was very uncomfortable to wear, obviously it's obtrusive at 9:00 I bloated up my stomach which made things very uncomfortable.
There's a you know the aspect that you have to clean the device every day change the water if you're traveling it's very difficult to have to travel with so one of the other options is a mechanical advancement device or an oral appliance and it helps portray the jaw forward and opens up the airway and it's literally just like wearing a retainer at night. It's much more comfortable you can travel with it, you clean it just in the bathroom with your toothbrush for maybe very simple maintenance and it's not so intrusive on your life your quality of life.
Its better for me I don't have the abdominal distension I sleep well at night I'm waking up restful my cognition is better my breathing is better since I also have some breathing issues but it's been very effective and part of the reason I came here is because I am a veteran I receive a lot of my care through the VA and despite some of the reports that the care at the VA is really slacking I actually received excellent care from the dental department.
I'm very fortunate to be able to go there unfortunately just like with any other practice they weren't able to provide this device to me and I came to dr. takis and literally had this device within three weeks and it has changed my quality of life tremendously and the quality of professionalism that I receive here is phenomenal it is a family practice and they're very treated that there are family members that work here doctor taketh has family members Shana who first helped me has family members and it's it really is this family setting of individuals that if you were gonna have Thanksgiving dinner since that's coming up there the family members that you'd want to be sitting with so I highly recommend and I have recommended this practice to many of my friends already and I hope they take advantage of it I hope that people will look into some of the research that's out there that supports oral appliances and it'll make your quality of life a lot better and this is something that they can work with you on financing and they did with MIT myself with my insurance company and it's just a stellar practice so I would check it out
