I love coming here because when I needed a dentist … and all of my life, I've always been afraid of going to the dentist because one of the main reasons, I'm afraid of needles. So when I first came here, the business where I worked, ux.net, actually Beaumont Family Dentistry is a customer, and me and some other coworkers were looking. We're like, “Oh well, let's look and see if there's anyone that we service that has a dentistry practice." So anyway, so I ended up coming here, and Jill was the first person that I met with, Dr. Jill. I told her from the beginning, I was raised in a situation to where my family never went to the dentist because of a lack of insurance. So going to the dentist was, you have to go. And then when you did have to go, something was wrong. So there was automatically a fear there. So I just basically told her upfront, “I am terrified.”
So here I am, this 30-something-year-old man, and I'm terrified of you, and I don't know why, and here I am and fix my face. Kind of rolled with that and did everything that she could to make me feel comfortable and explaining what she was doing, what it was going to do to help me, where it was going to lead me, things I would need to do down the road. She just made me feel at ease, and so that eventually, after multiple visits, it just got to the point to where I was no longer afraid. And I just kind of went back, laid down on the chair, and was like, “Just do it.”
Beaumont Family Dentistry practice has stood out to me because they've made me aware of things that I need to do in the future. It's like, “You came to see us today because of this. And we're going to help you with that. But then also you also may end up needing this, or you may end up having this problem. We need to check and make sure that this isn't an issue.” In that, in a preventative sense, Dr. Jill found a mass in my jaw at one point. Wasn't what we were here looking for, but she found it just in a routine check, and it ended up being – luckily, it wasn't cancerous, but it ended up being something that I had to go and have surgery and have removed. If I had not been coming here and had not been comfortable with her and allowing her to just do that routine maintenance and come in ever so often just for a checkup or for a cleaning, that may have not have been found and may have posed a bigger issue.

You know, I recently moved to Lexington and really picked this out because it was closest, and it is one of the best decisions I made. You walk in, it's aptly named because it kind of feels like a family atmosphere when you come here. I tend to get some white coat anxiety and kind of washes away when you you walk in, you're greeted with smiling faces, and it just continues the whole way.
I have Dr. Higginbotham, and she's top notch. They really listen to you here. I've moved around throughout undergrad and law school. For example, at my last one up in Florence, a great dentist and everything, but she came to me with this big old laundry list of things that needed to be done and would kind of talk harshly about all the things I needed done. Scared me. Here, they listen to me – “What do you want to know next?” and they actually only give me kind of my next thing I got to get done. And they just, they really listen to kind of what you want when you're here, and doesn't get much better than that.
Just like when you walk in, she's always smiling. You can tell under the mask with her eyes. She's always asking me about my day. She remembers what we talked about last time. Me and her, we talk about horses a lot. I think she owns a few. I just enjoy some days at the races, so we get that. We get along that way. She listens to me. She really wants to know that I'm comfortable, whether it's in the middle of a procedure with drilling in my mouth or just with the next step in my care plan, and that's what you want out of a dentist.
They even got me on the right track where I needed a root canal. Haven't had any issues with that tooth. Some of my previous dentists would kind of just, “Oh, let's pull the, rip the thing out.” I'm down a few teeth now, and they've saved all the ones that I've had here. So can't beat that.

The quality of care here and the professionalism by everyone working here has been awesome for me. Previous dentists that I went to, I have a couple of stories about.
One, I went to a dentist and I was having an extraction. I was in one of those cases to where you only go if something's wrong, and I had to have a tooth pulled. When they were pulling the tooth, I had tried to explain to them that I was afraid, I was nervous. I was all of these things. Absolutely no care was given to that whatsoever, and when they pulled the tooth, they dropped it down my throat and I choked.
And then as far as the … you know, because here, there's extra precaution taken in talking to me. You know, "This is what we're going to do. This is how it's going to happen. This is what you're going to feel. These are the things that I'm going to use." You're talked through the process so you're not just laying there wondering what's going on to where you have an immediate reaction to something because you can't see.
The staff here, they are excellent with keeping up with ... They remind me of my appointments. They remind me when I need to do something, or they remind me when something's coming up. I think I get emails and texts. There's really no way I can forget, and there's no way it can be out of sight, out of mind, because they kind of take care of that for me.
At Beaumont Family Dentistry, you can expect to be treated like a person and not like a patient. When you come in, they're going to work with you specifically, and it's not going to be a situation to where they're asking you to, “Okay, lay down," and then they just start working on you. They're going to talk to you. For me, they're going to talk through the nervousness. They're going to talk through the things that are going to happen, basically treat me like a person instead of just an object that they're kind of dealing with.
