One of the great things about living in our country is we have choices about almost anything you could want.
You can find dozens of varieties of bread at the local grocery store. We have a selection of all kinds of restaurants, so you are sure to find something no matter what you are in the mood to eat.
This year, we even get to pick who our next President will be. (No comment on whether these are good options.)
If you are considering orthodontic care, you have choices about where you will go and what kind of treatment you will receive. We want to talk to you about two of those choices today.
The first is a treatment option — Fastbraces® — that lives up to its name. The second is where you can go to get it, Beaumont Family Dentistry in Lexington.
Why People Get Braces
Before we go any further, let’s consider why people get braces at all.
In some family, wearing braces have practically become a rite of passage for teenagers. It does make sense on one level. If your teeth were crooked when they were younger, it shouldn’t surprise you that your children’s teeth aren’t perfectly straight.
Crooked teeth are only one of the ways teeth can be misaligned, however.
You could have an overbite (when your top teeth jut out too far), an underbite (when your bottom teeth stick out further than your top teeth), or a crossbite (when your top and bottom rows of teeth overlap one another). You could also have an open bite, which is when your front teeth remain separated when you close your bite.
You may have diastema, gaps between your teeth. You could have crowded teeth if your mouth was not big enough for your teeth to come in correctly.
Any or all of these issues can make someone self-conscious about his or her smile. From a cosmetic or aesthetic standpoint, braces can make your teeth and your smile look much better.
There is a health aspect to orthodontic treatment, too. Misaligned teeth can be more difficult to clean, which can increase your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Straightening your teeth can make it easier to scrub them when you brush and to clean between them when you floss.
If you wore braces, then you understand the benefits (your teeth are now straight!), and you understand the downsides.
Braces can be uncomfortable. You feel them from the moment you get them, and you feel them each time they are adjusted. The brackets themselves can be scratchy, and if something happens, the brackets can come loose or the wires can break.
Plus, you have to give up certain foods that are too hard, too crunchy, or too chewy during the time you have your braces. Since this treatment can last two years or more, that can seem like a long time. It could discourage some people from ever starting.
There’s not denying that braces work, but it would be nice if you could complete your treatment in less time. This is where Fastbraces may be the solution for you.
When compared with traditional braces, they really are fast braces.
Fastbraces have special triangular-shaped brackets, which affect the way the wire that connects them applies pressure to your teeth.
Traditional braces work more slowly partially because they move your teeth in stages, first the crowns, then the roots. Fastbraces are able to move your crowns and roots simultaneously, which have a big effect on how quickly you can finish your treatment.
How fast are Fastbraces? In a best case scenario, you can be finished in as little as 20 weeks, although six months to a year is more common.
Regardless, Fastbraces treatment generally less than half the time you would need to wear traditional braces.
Why You Should Come To Beaumont Family Dentistry
It starts with experience. We have been serving patients in and around Lexington at our dentist offices for more than 30 years.
In that time, we have gained a lot of knowledge about what treatments work and what treatments don’t.
Dr. Takacs, who started our practice, is considered a Master Provider for Fastbraces. That is to say, she has successfully used this technology to help several patients improve their smiles.
She’s also a Fastbraces trainer, so you can feel confident that she has shared the insights gained from her experience with the other doctors in our offices.
