In woodworking, veneers are a thin piece of wood that is glued to another product to change it’s appearance. It’s a fast, effective way to change the appearance of a door or a cabinet.
Dental veneers serve a similar purpose, only we use them to improve the appearance of your smile. (And they aren’t made of wood.)
If you look in the mirror, you can probably pick out something you don’t like about your smile. This may seem like something minor to other people, but it may bother you. That’s what matters.
If you would like to fix that imperfection, then Beaumont Family Dentistry is the place to go in Lexington, KY, for veneers. We offer free consultations for our cosmetic dentistry, so there is no cost if you want to talk to us about how you would like to change your smile.
We want our patients to feel happy about their teeth. When that happens, they and we have reasons to smile.
What Is The Hollywood Smile?
You can probably count on one hand the people you know who have naturally perfect teeth — if you know anyone who fits that description.
Yet, celebrity magazines are filled with photo after photo of actors dressed in the finest clothing, with the latest hairstyles, and with absolutely perfect teeth.
This isn’t a new phenomenon. Movie studios have wanted their actors to look as good as possible on screen for as long as movies have been produced.
After all, teeth are one of the things that actors (like all of us) have with them at all times.
Movies often portray people with “bad teeth” as uneducated and unintelligent. In constrast, our heroes and heroines usually have what we now know as the “Hollywood smile.”
While no two smiles look exactly alike, we think everyone would agree that the Hollywood smile is:
- Perfectly white
- Perfectly straight
- Perfectly spaced
A quick search on Google or another search engine will lead you to hundreds of before and after photos of celebrities who have had work done to improve their teeth.
You rarely see pictures of celebrities wearing braces or other orthodontics. So how to so many celebrities fix their smiles? You probably guessed it. They get veneers.
What Dental Veneers Can Do
In all seriousness, it might be easier to list the things that veneers can’t do.
Veneers are simple, but they can improve your teeth and your smile in so many ways. About the only thing they can’t do is to replace a tooth that’s fallen out.
Here are problems you can fix with veneers:
- Broken and chipped teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Dark, yellow or stained teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Teeth with gaps between them
- Worn down teeth
What if you have multiple problems, say stained teeth that are crooked, or chipped teeth that are unevenly spaced? Well, veneers can fix any and all of those problems at the same time.
How To Get Veneers
First, come to Beaumont Family Dentistry for your free cosmetic dentistry consultation. You will fill out a questionnaire. We will take pictures and talk about how you would like to change your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are designed to be a durable solution for any problem. When they are finished, they will look like your natural teeth, only better.
If you decided to get porcelain veneers, we will have to prepare your teeth. During your first visit, we will numb your teeth before we remove a portion of your enamel. We do this so your mouth will look the same after the veneers are bonded to your teeth.
Once the enamel is removed, we make impressions of your teeth. Those impressions are shared with the lab that will make your veneers. When they are ready, you’ll return to our office, and we will bond your veneers to your teeth.
This shell will hide your natural teeth and completely change what your smile looks like in the mirror, in photos, and to the rest of the world.
Lumineers are similar to our porcelain veneers, only much, much thinner. Lumineers are so thin that we don’t have to remove any enamel from your teeth.
Otherwise, we follow the same process. We make impressions, send them to the lab, and bond the Lumineers in place once they are ready. (You can even ask our own Dr. Takacs about her Lumineers if you want to know more.)
