As the weather gets colder, we often seek out something cozy and comfortable. A cup of hot cocoa or a warm bowl of soup can do wonders for our mood.
Even settling into the couch to watch TV can be a great way to help relax at the end of a stressful day.
We know that coming to the dentist maybe be a stressful event for you or someone in your family. We want to help reduce that stress at Beaumont Family Dentistry in Lexington.
We do that by providing comfort options as well as sedation dentistry to match quality care our patients.
Comfort options
When you come to any Beaumont Family Dentistry office, we want you and your family to feel comfortable. When you are comfortable, you feel more relaxed, and when you are relaxed, your hygienist or dentist can give you better care.
This starts the moment you enter our office. We have televisions in the reception area to pass the time until your treatment begins. While you wait, you can enjoy coffee or hot tea along with freshly baked cookies. (It’s OK, we wouldn’t put them out for you if we didn’t want you to enjoy them.)
After you are called back for your treatment, you can snuggle into one of our Tempur-Pedic padded dental chairs. You may recognize the name from their commercials for their comfortable mattresses.
Once you are seated, you can try a paraffin hand wax dip. Many of our patients find this relaxing. Plus, it can be beneficial for individuals with arthritis in their hands.
If you want something a little more personal, we have a professional masseuse available at each of our offices. While you are getting a cleaning, you can also receive a hand and arm massage.
A professional hand massage can relieve pain and improve circulation, according to livestrong.com.
We also know how great a cozy blanket can make you feel, especially if you tend to be cold-natured. We have pillows to help your head feel better, too.
We’ve also learned that some patients would rather have something to take their mind off their treatment. That’s why we have headphones and music available for you (or you are welcome to bring your own). Getting lost in some good tunes can make the time pass much faster and much easier.
Depending on the treatment you or someone in your family is receiving at one of our dentist offices, you may want to wear the safety glasses we have available to protect your eyes. At any time, we can provide you with lip balm if you are experiencing dry lips.
When your treatment is over, please take advantage of our warm towels.
Putting technology to work for you
As family dentists, we also want to provide the best service for you and your loved ones. That’s why we have invested in technology that improves the quality of your care, and reduces or eliminates any pain you might experience.
One example of that is the tools we use to perform root canal treatments. Years ago, it would have been reasonable to worry about pain during one of these treatments.
Today, we numb the tooth and the tissues around it before you treatment begins. We use rotary tools, rather than hand-filing, to remove the affected parts of your tooth, and we have special tools to remove the infected pulp with little to no pain to you.
Another example is the dental laser we use during our non-surgical gum disease treatments. The laser reduces bleeding and improves your healing time compared to the surgical treatments that were needed years ago.
Like a dream come true
If someone in your family is truly afraid or anxious about coming to the dentist, we can also offer sedation dentistry to help him or her relax. For most dental procedures, nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation are the most common types of sedation.
Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) is breathed in through a nasal mask. This takes effect quickly. It helps you stay calm during a routine cleaning or even something like the root canal we mentioned earlier. Because this wears off quickly as well, you will be able to get on with your day when you treatment is over.
Oral conscious sedation involves taking a pill prior to your appointment. This will take longer to take effect and longer to wear off, which means, you will need someone to drive you home when you are finished.
For more complicated procedures, we offer IV sedation dentistry. Like oral conscious sedation, the effects will last well after your treatment is finished, so you will need a family member or friend to take you home.
Relax and stay for a while
At Beaumont Family Dentistry, we want our patients in and around Lexington to feel comfortable coming to see us. We want you to come back, and that’s why we do everything we can to treat you like special guests when you are in our office.
If you are a new patient, we welcome you to fill out this online form or to call any of our offices to make an appointment.
And last but not least, we hope you and your family had a merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
