Your Child’s First Appointment
Your child’s first experience at the family dentist’s office can shape their relationship to dental care for years to come. That’s why we take great care in ensuring your child’s first appointment is a positive experience!
We recommend bringing your child to Beaumont Family Dentistry for the first time when they are roughly 2 years old. We call this appointment a “happy visit,” because above all else, we want your child to feel comfortable with the dentist and with the process of a checkup.
If your child allows, we’ll do a full exam, checking for cavities and signs of gum disease. But if your child is uncomfortable or frightened in the dental chair, that’s OK! We’ll do what we can and then hopefully perform a full checkup at your child’s next appointment.
Regardless of how much dental work we do at this appointment, we find that this appointment is a great opportunity for parents to ask questions about your child’s oral health.
Whether you have questions about how thumbsucking affects your child’s bite, or if you’re just unsure how often to brush, we’re happy to help you. After all, the compassionate staff at Beaumont Family Dentistry is working toward the same goal you are: ensuring your child’s smile stays healthy!
Preventative Care For Children
As your child grows, we’ll provide top-notch preventative care that will minimize the likelihood of dental complications in the future.
In addition to scheduling routine checkups and cleanings, applying sealants and fluoride varnishes to little teeth protects them against tooth decay and cavities!
According to the American Dental Association, sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of tooth decay by nearly 80 percent in children’s molars.
So what is a sealant? A sealant is a protective coating that’s painted onto teeth.
When food debris is left lingering on teeth, it attracts bacteria. The bacteria feast on the sugars and produce a weak acid that eats away at your enamel, which is the hard, protective outer layer of your teeth. Sealants protect teeth from that acidic substance, keeping the enamel strong and intact.
Both children and adults can benefit from sealants, but it’s best to protect teeth from cavities as soon as possible — shortly after your child’s first molars and second molars come in around the ages of 6 and 12, respectively.
At this stage, we can also provide treatments designs to keep your child out of braces later on! With preventative orthodontics, we can use non-invasive dentofacial orthopedic therapy to ensure your child’s face and jaw are developing in a way that will prevent crowding of teeth and other misalignment issues. The earlier you start, the more effective the treatment will be!
Caring For Teeth During The Teenage Years
When it comes to dental care, a child’s teenage years are usually synonymous with one thing: braces.
At Beaumont Family Dentistry, we offer alternatives to traditional metal braces: Invisalign® and Facebraces®. Both are incredibly discreet and gentle orthodontic treatment options, perfect for your busy teen.
Invisalign is a series of virtually invisible plastic aligners. Your teen will wear an aligner for 20 to 22 hours a day, removing it when they eat and for regular cleanings. Every week or so, your teen will swap out the aligner for the next one in the series. That’s it! And on average, the course of treatment with Invisalign is only 12 months.
For even faster results, Fastbraces offers treatment in as little as three months! How is this possible? Conventional braces move the visible part of the tooth (the crown) during the first year or so of treatment, and the root of the tooth in the second. But Fastbraces are designed to move both the crown and the root of a tooth at the same time.

In addition to the great care we can provide to kids and teenagers, we also offer top-notch care for adults! Whether you need a cosmetic dentistry procedure in your 30s or 40s, or you need to replace teeth as you age, we’re ready to help.
