Crowns aren’t just for kings and queens, and they don’t go on your head, either.
In dentistry, crowns are used as a replacement for a natural tooth. You may want a crown for cosmetic or restorative reasons. Either way, you and your mouth deserve the royal treatment.
And that’s just what you’ll receive if you come to Beaumont Family Dentistry in Lexington. We can replace missing or decayed teeth to restore you smile.
Am I a good candidate for a crown?
It’s quite possible. Dentists recommend crowns for a number of reasons, such as:
• Covering discolored teeth – If your teeth have become yellowed from years of tobacco use or consumption of stain-causing foods and drinks, a crown can be used as a cap to hide the discoloration.
• Protecting weak teeth – If you have a tooth that has been damaged or has suffered from tooth decay, a crown can provide support that prevents that tooth from breaking.
• Fixing chipped or broken teeth – If you have a tooth that is chipped or cracked, a crown may be used to cover and restore the appearance of that tooth.
• Replacing missing or decayed teeth – A crown can fill the gap between your teeth to give you the appearance of a complete set of teeth. If you experience tooth decay, it may be possible to reshape or remove the decayed part of your tooth and replace it with a natural-looking crown.
Crowns aren’t just for looks, however. A good crown also provides support to the natural teeth around it, and it offers protection for the bone in your jaw where your natural teeth are anchored.
A crown can restore the appearance of your smile, and make it more likely that you’ll keep that smile intact for years to come.
CEREC crowns
At Beaumont Family Dentistry, we know you have a busy life with family and work commitments. We know your time is valuable, which is why we offer CEREC same-day crowns for our patients.
Traditional crowns require two visits to place correctly, but CEREC crowns can be created and placed in a matter of hours, which means you can have full set of teeth in just one day.
CEREC is short for “ceramic reconstruction,” and it is a special type of machine used to create custom-made crowns for our patients. These crowns can be crafted and placed in one day because of the materials used to make them.
Traditional crowns require taking an impression and using wax molds to create your crown. This type of crown has a metal base with a porcelain overlay. Because the steps in the process take time, you will need to make separate trips for the impression and the placement of your crowns.
In contrast, CEREC crowns are usually made entirely of porcelain, although some may have cubic zirconia inside for added strength and extra stability. In either case, we create a digital impression of your teeth.
This digital image is sent to our on-site CEREC milling machine. Our lab completes the crown by shaping it and coloring it to match your existing teeth.
Once the crown is complete, our dental team will bond it to your tooth, and you are ready to go.
We have taken our CEREC crowns one step further by combining them with e.Max technology. This kind of crown is incredibly strong because it is made of a single piece of porcelain, rather than layers of porcelain.
You can rest assured that your crowns will look great, and they will allow you to eat and drink just like you do with your natural teeth.
Look and feel your best
We know that our patients’ smiles are important for how they live their daily lives.
If you have a problematic tooth or a gap where a tooth once existed, then it can affect your self-confidence. In fact, it may make you more self-conscious in a variety of situations.
Maybe you are supposed to meet some friends for a night out. A bad tooth can make you hesitant to leave the house.
Maybe your boss asked you to give a presentation a work, which admittedly can be a stressful situation already. If you are worried that your audience will be paying more attention to your tooth than to what you are saying, you may turn down a career-making opportunity.
You may even be hesitant to smile for a family photo if you are worried about how your teeth will look when the picture is shared.
Don’t let your worries about your teeth hold you back. Take charge of your life by taking care of your teeth. A crown may restore your smile and a whole lot more.
We have three offices in the Lexington area to care for our patients throughout Central Kentucky. if you are ready to take that next step, call Beaumont Family Dentistry at 859-223-2120 , 859-687-0975, or 859-368-8260.
