Christmas lights are one of our favorite parts of the holiday season. It’s truly amazing what people can do with strands of colored lights. Houses, even whole neighborhoods, are decorated in the spirit of the season.
Right here in Lexington, the Kentucky Horse Park puts on a spectacular display with more sparkling lights than we can count.
At Beaumont Family Dentistry, we also love seeing the bright, sparkling smiles of our patients from Lexington and all over Central Kentucky.
Nothing lights up the night like Christmas lights, and nothing lights up a room like a confident, white smile. If you’d like to have that kind of smile, then you may want to learn more about Lumineers, one of the veneers we offer as part of our cosmetic dentistry services.
Revive your smile
As the daylight hours grow shorter in the winter, Christmas lights makes us feel a little happier in spite of the darkness.
Likewise, a bright, white smile can improve your outlook on life, especially if you have become ashamed of your teeth. Lumineers and our other veneers are a great way to give a boost to your smile and your self-confidence.
Veneers change the outward appearance of your teeth. Just like those Christmas decorations improve the look of the neighborhood, veneers improve the look of your smile.
And there are so many problems that veneers can fix. We probably can’t name them all, but we’ll give you some examples.
Lots of people have yellow or discolored teeth. Our professional teeth whitening is one way you can fix that, but for some patients, veneers are a better option.
Teeth whitening works well when the discoloration is the result of staining from food, drinks, or tobacco use. Veneers work great on that, too, but veneers also work if your smile loses its whiteness for other reasons, such as tooth decay or as a side effect of medication.
Veneers can also be used to repair chipped or broken teeth. This may have happened when you were teenager, and you got hit the mouth while playing sports. This may have happened when you walked into something because you weren’t paying attention, or someone else wasn’t paying attention and walked into you with whatever he or she was carrying. Maybe you broke your tooth because of a fall or other accident.
Whatever the reason, veneers are a perfect fix. Veneers can be used to fill in the missing part of your tooth to restore it to its original shape and size.
People with crooked teeth can benefit from veneers, too. Maybe your teeth don’t need a full orthodontic treatment, but you would like it if they were a little straighter.
Veneers can be placed over your teeth to give you the appearance of a perfectly straight smile, just like the ones you see in pictures of celebrities posing on the red carpet.
Veneers are also a great way to close the gaps between your teeth. Just because Michael Strahan is OK with the space between his teeth doesn’t mean everyone is. If you would rather have more evenly spaced teeth, veneers can give you a smile that looks that way.
It’s extremely rare for anyone to have a perfect smile naturally. With veneers, however, your smile can be white, straight, complete, and evenly spaced.
What makes Lumineers different?
Any of the veneers we offer at Beaumont Family Dentistry can do the things we described above. So what makes Lumineers different?
The primary difference is that Lumineers are extremely thin.
To be fair, no veneers are thick, but then again, neither are our teeth. Placing a 1 millimeter veneer really would change the thickness of your teeth (more on why this doesn’t happen in a moment).
On the other hand, Lumineers are 0.2 mm “thick.” That’s just a little bit wider than a strand of your hair. That means putting on Lumineers has a minimal effect on the size of your teeth.
The other difference between Lumineers and other veneers is directly related to how thin or thick they are.
Adding a millimeter of thickness to your teeth would change how your lips fall over your teeth, which could change your facial appearance. In order to keep you looking like yourself, the dentist normally removes some of the enamel on your teeth before placing your veneers.
After the enamel is removed, the dentist makes an impression of your teeth, and your veneers are custom made to fit in your mouth.
With Lumineers, your dentist may not need to do any prep work at all. In many cases, we can make an impression of your teeth, and when your Lumineers are ready, we bond them to your teeth as they are.
Brighten your smile
Lumineers change your smile the instant they are bonded to your teeth. They will give you a bright, white smile, and you may notice that you feel better, too.
When you have a great smile, you are proud to show it, and that can lift other people’s spirits — just like those Christmas lights.
