Hello and welcome to another August edition of our oral health blog! If you are an adult who has been wondering if it is still possible, or even worth it, to go through a traditional orthodontic treatment program, or you are the parent of a teenager who needs braces, you really should schedule an appointment at Beaumont Family Dentistry. That’s because we offer a great alternative system called Fastbraces® that just might be the best solution for your crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth. Keep reading to hear more about it, and then be sure to follow up with Dr. Takacs and the rest of our Central Kentucky team.
Fastbraces® 101
Fastbraces® offer orthodontic care that will give you the great results you want in only about half the time (sometimes even less) than it would take with traditional orthodontic treatments.
Think about it: with standard issue braces, the average treatment will last two years, and many people have their braces even longer. But with Fastbraces®, some patients have been able to complete their orthodontic care in as little as 20 weeks. Full disclosure: not every patient will be finished that quickly. Still it’s common for patients to complete their Fastbraces® treatment in less than a year, which is a huge savings of time.
Fastbraces® Take A Forward-Looking Approach
Here’s a little history for you: Dr. Anthony Viazis, an orthodontist from the great state of Texas, wanted a faster (and more comfortable) way to help his patients correct misalignments of their teeth. So, he designed something new and began treating patients with this quick-results method back in 1992.
Obviously, it caught on in a big way. And today, you can get the benefits that come with using Fastbraces® right here in our Lexington, KY dentist’s office. It is one of several options we offer patients who are looking to straighten out the situation in their mouths.
The Fastbraces® Difference
So, why is Dr. Viazis’ system better than regular old braces? Let’s take a closer look! Both use brackets. Both use wires. Both will move your teeth into new and better positions in the end. Either way, you get a healthier, better-looking smile.
Here’s how your treatment is different with Fastbraces® than with conventional braces:
Fastbraces® use special triangular brackets. This allows wider spaces between the brackets. This affects the forces exerted by the archwire as well as the flexibility of the wire. Remember, traditional braces have rectangular brackets. This affects how teeth move, and it changes the forces generated through the wires.
Ultimately, this is why it matters: with Fastbraces®, the crowns and the roots of your teeth can be moved at the same time. This is what has the most dramatic effect on the total time required to get the job done. With traditional braces, your teeth are moved in stages. First, the crowns are lined up, then the roots are moved to hold the teeth in that position. And each stage takes something like a year to complete. Most people we see just don’t have time for that!
