To that end, we’d like to share our tips for keeping your smile on track, while you are in vacation mode. Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up and schedule your next appointment at Beaumont Family Dentistry!

Drink Water Like Crazy!

Here’s something you probably know: drinking water does your entire body a lot of good. Hydration is especially important in the summertime. But beyond the general health benefits, it can also help keep your breath from becoming offensive by allowing you to produce enough saliva to fight off the bad-breath-causing bacteria. That’s a big deal, right?

Avoid Sugary Snacks!

A cold bottle of Ale-8 or an icy popsicle might hit the spot but it won’t be much good for your smile in the long run because all that sugar will feed the bacteria that brings about cavities. No one wants to deal with fillings in the fall! Try to limit your intake of such things and you’ll be thankful.

Brush, Brush, Brush!

Hopefully your schedule is more relaxed and the living is easier (to a certain extent), but you should still be brushing your teeth for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. That’s what the American Dental Association says, and we concur. This will keep cavities and disease at bay, and it will leave your mouth feeling clean. Don’t get lax!

Find The Floss (And Use It)!

Keep in mind that brushing is a great beginning but it is never going to be enough for the ongoing battle in your mouth. To go after the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, dental floss is the weapon you’ll need. Strive to do it at least once each day.

Add Mouthwash To The Mix!

There are fluoride mouthwashes available that can bring added oral health benefits. It is a nice way to finish off your routine. Just be sure to read the labels for age-appropriateness.
