Every minute — every second — counts when you are having a dental emergency. That’s why we want you to keep our phone numbers close in case you ever need emergency dental care.
Beaumont Family Dentistry has three dentist offices in Lexington, KY:
You can call us anytime, day or night. If you are calling after our regular office hours, listen for the emergency number on the answering machine. Calling that number will put you in contact with our on-call dentist, who can advise you on what to do until you are able to meet with a dentist in person.
Your time and your teeth are important to us. We will do everything we can to get you the help that you need as soon as we are able.
Dealing With A Dental Emergency: Pain
Pain is a good indicator that something is wrong. Your teeth should not cause you pain. Your gums should be hurt.
Call the nearest Beaumont Family Dentistry location right away if either of these things is happening to you. When our patients are hurting, we want to stop whatever is causing that problem.
The pain of a toothache often indicates an infected tooth. You might not want to hear this, but that usually requires a root canal treatment.
Now, don’t worry about that. If you come to Beaumont Family Dentistry, we can alleviate your pain without causing you additional pain.
We can local anesthetic or one of our dental sedation options to prevent you from feeling any pain during this procedure. After removing the infection, we can restore your tooth with a dental filling or dental crown.
You should notice the pain going away completely in a matter of days.
Sore gums can indicate periodontitis, an advanced form of gum disease. Like an infected tooth, this is something you will want to treat as soon as you can.
By contacting one of our Lexington dentist offices, we can schedule an appointment for you. We can remove the infection and the infected gum tissue through laser dentistry, Arestin antibiotics, scaling and root planing, or a combination of treatments.
Dealing With A Dental Emergency: Injuries
We want to acknowledge up front that injuries to your mouth or teeth can certainly be painful, but this is a different kind of pain than what you will feel as a result of a toothache or gum disease.
Injuries can happen at any time. You may be walking down the street when you get distracted and walk into a post. You could be playing a game of basketball with your friends with the ball or an elbow catches you in the mouth.
You could end up with a broken tooth, or one or more of your teeth could get knocked out of their sockets.
In either situation, you should call Beaumont Family Dentistry right away.
With either a broken or lost tooth, you will want to rinse your mouth to remove any blood.
Try to find any teeth that have been knocked out. Pick them up by the root and rinse them off. If the bleeding has stopped, try to place the tooth back in its socket. If it will stay, leave it there until you can see one of our dentists. If it won’t stay, keep the tooth in a container of milk until the dentist can see you.
For a broken tooth, cover it with gauze or dental wax. This will protect the soft tissues of your mouth from accident cuts.
You may use a pain reliever if needed, but the main thing is to see a dentist as soon as you can.
Dealing With A Dental Emergency: Loose Or Lost Restorations
Dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures are excellent ways to restore your smile. However, there are times when they come loose or even fall out.
If that happens to you, we want you to call us right away. We may be able to reattach your restoration in some cases. In others, we may need to replace it entirely.
Either way, you can count on Beaumont Family Dentistry to do all we can to get your smile back in shape as quickly as possible.
