Tooth-Colored Fillings

Aesthetic Tooth-Colored Fillings in Lexington, KY

We offer two colored fillings also called composite fillings. Those are the same shade as the tooth. There’s multiple different shades, multiple different colors of teeth. They are bonded into the tooth, so they tend to last. They tend to stay a little bit better than some of the amalgams. They also allow us to do a more conservative prep and save tooth structure, and that’s really their advantage. We can use them in the posterior as well as the anterior. As technology progresses we get better composites. We get better materials that allow us to really use it everywhere.

Fillings are one of the most simple, time-tested restorations we offer. Chances are, if you visit the dentist regularly, you probably have had a dental fillings at some point in your life. Different types of dental fillings are used to repair small areas of decay, called cavities. Learn more below about how we can detect cavities and repair them using the latest dental technology like tooth-colored fillings.

DIAGNOdent Technology

Because cavities are often very small and difficult to see, we use a diagnostic tool called DIAGNOdent to detect cavities. The tool works by sending out small laser pulses to “feel out” every nook and cranny in your teeth. DIAGNOdent can even detect caries under the tooth surface! These subsurface lesions are particularly difficult to find with traditional detection means.

DIAGNOdent allows us to detect cavities earlier than would be possible with traditional methods. That means we can clean the cavity and fill it before it becomes a larger issue. Left untreated, cavities can grow into larger caries, possibility even resulting in the need for more aggressive treatment. At a certain point, caries becomes too large for a filling to handle and could possibly need a crown.

Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings

Our composite fillings are strong, long-lasting, and natural looking. Old amalgam fillings, the ugly silver fillings of the past, can fail and need to be replaced after some time. Our tooth-colored composite fillings are more effective at protecting the cavity from further decay. We will even remove your old amalgam filling, if necessary, to better protect your tooth.

We can also do indirect fillings with our CEREC machine. We use the CEREC technology to take a digital “impression” before milling your new tooth-colored filling. These CEREC fillings are great for medium and larger cavities. Depending on the circumstance, these CEREC fillings can be even more durable than our composite fillings.
