Restorative Dentistry

Lexington, KY Restorative Dental Care

We do almost all of the restorative dentistry here. We do fillings, crowns, full mouth reconstruction. Pretty much anything you need restorative-wise we can do it here.

Any time a patient comes in and has caries or cavities in the teeth, that’s where we have to decide whether a filling is the right choice. Sometimes they need a crown, sometimes a root canal and a crown; it depends on how big the cavity is. Cavities call for restorative dentistry.

We have the experience and knowledge to restore broken-down or decaying teeth, using a variety of treatment procedures and advanced technology. After a comprehensive consultation and examination, we choose the restorative dentistry procedures and treatment path that will work best for your condition and budget.

When a patient loses a tooth, they’re losing some part of them, and we want to make sure that that tooth is put back in. There’s typically three ways we can do that. Something that is removable, goes in and out of your mouth. Most people don’t like it if they’ve just lost one tooth. If a tooth can be anchored by either side, that’s what we call a bridge. We’re able to make a new cover for the tooth in front and the tooth behind, and put a fake tooth in the middle, and now we have three teeth again. Not all people want to have that, and don’t need that. That’s a lot of work if you don’t already have the need for crowns in those areas.

Implants are really on the forefront of this. It is a single standing … It’s a little screw that goes into the bone, and we’re able to put a tooth on top of it so you have individual teeth and the ability to chew and smile again. There are three options. Most people really want to do the implants now. Implants are really not that painful. Most people think that it’s going to be an awful procedure, but bone does not have feeling, only the outside of the bone does. Really, most people after an implant or bone grafting, tell us that they experience a feeling of fullness, but that’s really it. The post-op pain is usually less than having fillings done.

What is restorative dentistry? Dental restoration uses procedures such as crowns, bridges, dental implants, root canals, dentures, tooth-colored fillings, inlays and onlays, and porcelain veneers. It also consists of ensuring that your periodontal health is good and your bite is healthy and not wearing down your teeth.

Our restorative dentists have considerable advanced education in the latest procedures and use state-of-the-art technology for a better treatment outcome and maximum comfort and efficiency. For major dental work or complex procedures, we offer IV and oral sedation to relax you while you receive your vital dental work.

Saving Your Teeth

If your teeth are in poor condition, we have many different options to help you save them. Expert periodontal work can salvage some situations, and we can employ root canals to save decayed teeth. Straightening teeth with orthodontics can even help save your teeth from future trouble.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

Sometimes the condition in the mouth has deteriorated to the point that all the teeth need to be replaced or restored. This requires good planning and a very good understanding of the dynamics of the mouth and the procedures needed for a full-mouth reconstruction. Dr. Takacs has the advanced training and experience to reconstruct your teeth to their former, or often to an even better, state.

While dentures are an option, these days there are many affordable alternatives. Dental implants are one alternative, but with new technology we can combine dental implants with dentures or bridges for beautiful and durable teeth.

Major dental work doesn’t need to be arduous. We offer many ways for you to relax, including sedation. Sedation dentistry lets you relax during even the most lengthy procedures. Oral sedation is a safe and effective option for patients who need major dental work. We also offer IV sedation, allowing you to experience a sleep-like state during a procedure.
