Preventive Dentistry

Lexington, KY Preventive Dentistry Services

Preventative dentistry is coming religiously or regularly for your visits, and making sure that we do a thorough exam each time you come in, even if you’ve been in for the past five years. Every visit’s the same. The patient comes in, we update their health history. We do blood pressure checks if it’s indicated> The hygienist always measure the gums, pockets around the teeth, make sure we’re not missing something. X-rays are given only every 12 months as needed for general checkup X-rays. Sometimes we have to do a Panorex, which is the full view, or sometimes we even do a CT scan if we have somebody that comes in and really have a questionable history, so let’s do a CT. Let’s see what’s really maybe going on there. Preventative treatment actually helps prevent more expensive treatment down the road. That, again, goes back to we educate the patient, “This is why you need to have this filling done, so it won’t break,” and they do that and it saves them maybe an embarrassing situation in a restaurant where they bite on something and they break their tooth. That’s the prevention that we provide here.

What is preventive dentistry? Preventive dental care is the number one way to avoid major dental issues later down the road. It is the key to long-term dental health for people of all ages. Below are some of the ways our office can help you stay healthy.

Preventive Care for Children

What is the goal of preventive dentistry? Preventive dental care is especially important for children. The habits children learn while they are young will stay with them throughout their entire lives. It is important to teach your child good oral hygiene habits and proper nutrition in order to build a foundation for a healthy mouth and a healthy body for life.

We offer dental visits for children beginning around age 2. These are “Happy Visits” intended to allow your child to acclimate to our office and get a head start on being healthy. We also offer pain-free fillings for kids, as well as other services and products to prevent major dental issues. Read on to learn more about how we can help your child prevent oral health problems. Proper At-Home Dental Health Care

We strongly believe in patient education. We focus on making sure each of our patients knows how to properly care for their teeth at home. This is the foundation of preventive dentistry and extremely important for people of all ages. Below are some tips on how to properly care for your teeth. If you have any questions or would like additional advice, please contact our office.

Brush at least twice per day. A brush with a small head (one that can easily reach all the nooks and crannies of your mouth) and soft bristles is best.

  1. Floss once per day. Proper technique is important. If you aren’t sure if you are flossing correctly, ask your dentist.
  2. Avoid sugary and acidic foods. These foods may cause disease and decay. If you do partake in these kinds of snacks, brushing your teeth immediately afterward is a good idea.
