Oral Surgery

Lexington, KY Oral Surgery Options

We always want to save the tooth if we can. There’s no replacement for a tooth like your own tooth. We try to save all the teeth we can, but sometimes it just doesn’t make sense when there’s not enough tooth structure left. Sometimes the best option and the best way to spend your money is to take the tooth out and thinking about replacing it with either a bridge, an implant, partial dentures. Sometimes we do end up needing to take the teeth out. We do extractions here. We do implants here. Oral surgery is a pretty big part of our practice.

What is oral surgery? At Beaumont Family Dentistry, we offer comprehensive dental services, including oral surgery. Whether you need an extraction or a bone graft, we can help you get the care you need while also making sure you are comfortable. Read on to learn more about each of our oral surgery procedures.

Tooth Extractions

We offer tooth extraction procedures for all simple removal needs. We do not offer wisdom teeth extractions, or extractions for more complicated situations. If you do need an extraction, we offer many tooth replacement options (such as implants) and dental sedation options to help you feel comfortable.

You may need to have a tooth removed due to infection of the dental pulp, gum disease, or overcrowding.

Bone Grafting Procedures

Bone grafting is a way to build up enough jawbone in order to place dental implants. Implants require a certain level of support in order to be strong and reliable. If you do not have adequate support naturally, don’t worry – we can help you get the foundation you need to achieve the smile you deserve.

There are two things that can cause jawbone deterioration: gum disease and living without teeth. Gum disease is a common culprit of tooth loss. Teeth fall out due to deterioration of the jawbone. Because they do not have adequate support, they simply become loose and need to be removed or even fall out on their own.

Living without teeth can cause the same type of deterioration. Because there is no tooth to support healthy bone, the bone structure declines. Replacing missing teeth can prevent this problem.

Regardless of the reason, if you have experienced bone loss and want dental implants, we can help build the support you need with our bone grafting procedure.

Sedation Dentistry

If you need oral surgery but are nervous about the pain, we have you covered. With our dental sedation options, we can make you as comfortable as necessary for any type of procedure. Our practice offers three levels of sedation, each used in different situations to create the level of relaxation necessary.

  • Nitrous oxide gas sedation – Used primarily for nervous patients to help them feel more relaxed during treatment. Great for kids. Used for less complicated procedures because it wears off easily.
  • Oral conscious sedation – An oral medication used primarily to help the patient feel very relaxed or even groggy. Used for more complicated procedures. Lasts longer than nitrous oxide but is not so easily controlled as IV sedation.
  • IV sedation – Our deepest form of sedation. Creates a sleep-like state from which the patient will wake without memory of the procedure. Often used for oral surgery.

Talk to your doctor about which dental sedation option is right for you. Regardless of the circumstance, we can help you feel at ease.
