Steering Clear Of Oral Surgery

Here’s the thing, if you want to avoid oral surgery, then the best approach is taking really good care of your teeth and gums all through life. Part of that means following the recommendations of the American Dental Association regarding preventive care.

You’ll want to brush twice a day for two minutes at a stretch with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste. Follow that with flossing, which cleans the spaces between your teeth and under your gumline. Then you can rinse with mouthwash to finish off your routine.

Beyond that, you also should visit the nearest Beaumont Family Dentistry at least twice a year for routine cleanings and dental exams. Our team will help remove any built-up plaque and tartar from your teeth, and this gives us an opportunity to examine your mouth for any issues that may need to be addressed before oral surgery becomes necessary. Having a dentist you can trust to keep you on track is priceless!

Common Types Of Oral Surgery

Even if you are making a pretty good effort at home and coming in to see us fairly regularly, there still may come a time when oral surgery actually is the best thing you can do for your oral health. Here are two procedures our staff can do to help you:

Extractions

In some cases, gum disease, tooth infection, or tooth decay may have progressed to a point where preventive treatment and conservative solutions are not a viable option.

We will only recommend tooth removal when it is the best choice for your oral health. if there is any way we can help you restore your tooth, then that is what we will recommend. In some instances, you may have a crowded mouth, and removing a tooth may be a necessary first step before attempting orthodontic care.
For wisdom teeth removal or for complicated tooth extractions, we do want you do know that we may refer you to a specialist who has the tools and training that matches your needs.

Bone Grafts

Did you know that in this country, there are more than 30 million adults who are missing teeth? That’s a staggering statistic, right?

We recommend dental implants for patients who are living without a complete set of teeth. This makes your tooth replacement more secure, and it helps to preserve your jawbone as well.

But to make that happen, you may need a certain amount of bone in order to place those implants. When you don’t have enough bone, we can perform a transplant procedure called a bone graft.

The existing bone will bond to the transplanted bone as you heal. When this is finished, we will be able to place your dental implants where they are needed and get your life back to normal.
